What the Blue Badge does

The Blue Badge scheme lets people with severe mobility problems — drivers or passengers — park closer to their destination: on-street disabled bays, free at many on-street meters, and on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours in most areas (unless loading restrictions apply). It travels with the person, not the vehicle, so you can use it in any car — including a hired WAV.

Who qualifies

You qualify automatically if, for example, you receive the higher rate mobility component of DLA, score 8+ points on the 'moving around' element of PIP, or are registered severely sight impaired. Others — including people with non-visible conditions that make journeys exceptionally difficult — can qualify through a discretionary assessment.

Applying in Kent

Apply online at GOV.UK or through Kent County Council. You'll need a recent photo, proof of identity and address, your National Insurance number, and evidence of your benefits or condition.
